Since 1994 SBI Seminars has been presenting in-service workshops to law-enforcement officers in several states.
Those workshops are designed to enhance an officer’s ability to collect evidence and prepare reports that take into account the procedures for introducing evidence at trials and hearings and enhancing the officer’s ability to communicate effectively to Judges, Lawyers and Jurors.
“The Legal System” The law-enforcement officer is provided with a view of the civil, criminal and administrative courts and how an officer may be called upon to provide evidence at each.
In this workshop the officer will become familiar with how lawyers, for either side, need evidence presented in a manner that will “build” their case using evidence which is legally admissible.
“Courtroom Survival“ The law-enforcement officer will become comfortable with presenting evidence on both direct and cross examination without showing emotion or the appearance of advocating a position for either side. By learning to present testimony in an unbiased and professional manner the officer will gain credibility with the Court, lawyers and jurors.
“Death Investigation“ is a stand- alone 4 hour ‘hands-on’ workshop where the law-enforcement officer will become comfortable with considering the “Cause and Manner” of death. This workshop is not designed to counter the departmental policies and procedures on investigating and reporting human death. It is designed to assist the officer in observing and understanding the physical and environmental aspects affecting the corpse in an effort to assist the medical-legal personnel to determine if the manner of death was natural, suicide, homicide, accidental or undetermined.
